The Reading ancient schoolroom welcomes children and families who come without a school group. On certain days (this year it is Thursday 24th January, 3-6 pm) the schoolroom will be open in the late afternoon to enable people who come after school to participate; the cost is £5 per person (both adults and children). Home-schoolers are also welcome during the school day, when they have the same options as schools in terms of a stand-alone schoolroom for £5 per person (£4 per person for those who come in their own genuinely convincing Roman costumes) or (subject to availability) a full day of activities for £10 per person.
Children under 10 should be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult at all times. Although we have had participants as young as four years old, younger children require close supervision that we cannot ourselves provide, and the university campus is not set up to be safe for unsupervised young children.
Please specify the ages of children when making bookings, so that we can be sure that appropriate materials are available.
